Sonus faber: Anodizing

Since the very beginning, Sonus faber stands out for the skillful art of combining different materials, able to exploit the peculiarities of each single part and assign to all of them the perfect role, fitting their nature. Besides wood, precious and resonant material par excellence, metals are also fundamental in achieving authenticity of sound. Among the metals tested over the years anodized aluminum emerges. Anodizing is a complex metal treatment, realized to give greater resistance and to eliminate any possible spurious vibrations.

Sonus faber: The handmade finish

The handmade finish is done following a step process. To the first phase of mirror polishing of the raw piece follows a phase of the nickel coating application; subsequently, two further polishing steps are required, interspersed with a second coating application, to complete the processing. The cosmetic results of the anodized aluminum are unique and incredibly difficult to achieve: a high degree of precision is required to guarantee the same quality both gloss or matte anodizing.

Sonus faber: the choice of alloys

In the design of the Sonus faber loudspeakers systems, we experienced the anodization process on different aluminum alloys, but above all the Avional, an aluminum and copper alloy used for the first time with the Sonus faber.

Avional anodization returns with Ex3ma, whose front and back panels are obtained from solid billets of Avional CNC machined and finished by hand; more recently, in the Homage Tradition collection (Amati, Guarneri, Serafino and Vox Tradition) the use of aluminum is back again, but this time in the satin version, Titanium finish.

Sonus faber: the importance of aesthetics

Alongside an excellent functional performance in terms of stiffness and damping of driver stresses, anodized aluminum guarantees an aesthetic with a refined taste. Recalling the best Made in Italy tradition, it’s able to combine the vintage spirit and the most modern appeal, giving to the contrast of wood and metal a greater expressiveness, allowing the design to be even more unique and immediately recognizable.
